The V.O.I.C.E. Journal

By Rhoda C. Sommers, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Education & Human Development

Greetings, brothers and sisters called to the ministry of education!

The School of Education & Human Development at Malone University is delighted to share this inaugural issue of The V.O.I.C.E. with you! Whether you teach in public or faith-based schools, we celebrate your Vision, Opportunities, and Inquiry in Christ-centered Education. We recognize your service to God as you give of yourselves to the children, families, and communities entrusted to your care.

In each issue, you will find support for your work through ideas from practicing educators, reviews of books to use in the classroom, ideas for professional development, thoughtful reflections on scholarly research in the field, and encouraging insights. All of these will be connected to the Word and how Christ-centered educators can bring glory to Him.

Special thanks and recognition for this issue of The V.O.I.C.E. goes to Dr. Beth Anne Clark-Thomas and Dr. Sarah Hamsher who have served as co-editors. Dr. Clark-Thomas is a Professor of Education and has served at Malone University since 1995. She has impacted countless teachers and aspiring teachers, is recognized as an excellent instructor, and frequently speaks at conferences. Earlier this year she taught English Language Learners at Herndon Elementary School close to Washington, DC during her well-deserved sabbatical. Dr. Hamsher, Assistant Professor of Education, came to Malone University as a faculty member in 2011, teaching courses in literacy. In addition, she worked closely with the assessment and accreditation work in the Education Department.

Look for the second issue of The V.O.I.C.E. in September 2016. Dr. Clark-Thomas will serve as the editor for that issue. We welcome your feedback, and invite you to share this journal with others. Please share your stories with us, ideas related to teaching practice, scholarly inquiry, or a book review. This season in education is challenging, but we are doing work that has an eternal impact and affirm that with Christ all things are possible. Stand with us at Malone University where we seek Christ’s Kingdom First!
